Mini Cooper Voted Best Film Car
The Mini Cooper which played a starring role in the classic crime caper The Italian Job has been named best movie car of all time.
In 1969 film The Italian Job, Michael Caine attempts a massive gold heist in the city of Turin, using three of the classic Mini Coopers as getaway cars.
But the film ends on a cliff-edge, literally, as the gang’s bus takes a corner too fast leading to Caine and co hanging off a huge mountain in the Italian Alps.
The Mini Cooper was followed by the talking car KITT from Eighties show Knight Rider, which starred Baywatch’s leading man David Hasselhoff.
And no list would be complete without a James Bond car with Pierce Brosnan’s Aston Martin Vanquish from Die Another Day named third best film car ever.
Fourth was the Volkswagen Beetle from the Herbie series, followed by the time travelling De Lorean from Back to the Future.
The final five consisted of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the Batmobile, the General Lee for Dukes of Hazzard, Lady Penelope’s Rolls-Royce and Bumblebee from Transformers.
The Mini scooped the award in a poll of 2,000 movie fans conducted by Uniroyal tyres.
A spokesperson for Uniroyal said: “It shows Brits are really passionate about their cars and are constantly looking for inspiration from movies and TV shows.”
