205mph Golf R36 - Twin Turbo
German tuners have unleashed a Teutonic monster – the 205mph HGP Golf R36 BiTurbo.
HGP Tuning has slotted in a 3.6-litre V6 engine lifted from the Volkswagen Passat and has fitted two turbochargers.
And HGP tuning has upped the powerplant’s punch to produce an eye-watering 640bhp – just 10bhp less than the bonkers Golf W12 650 concept, and more than the new 600bhp Aston Martin V12 Vantage RS.
This means the modified Vee-Dub sprints from 0-62mph in just 3.8 seconds and tops out at a whopping 205mph – the same as a derestricted BMW M5.
HGP Tuning strapped on two turbos to the standard 3.6-litre V6 lump and added a range of performance goodies including a new exhaust system and bigger brake discs capable of handling the prodigious power output.
The HGP tuned Golf R36 BiTurbo shares its platform with the Volkswagen Golf R32 – the German firm’s 247bhp four-wheel-drive hot hatch.
Rumours have been circulating over Volkswagen’s intention to produce their own version of the Golf R36, which would be a successor to the Golf R32, producing approximately 300bhp.
But Volkswagen churned out its own factory modified monster last year – the Golf W12 650.
VW shoehorned the massive 6-litre W12 engine from its flagship Phaeton luxury saloon as a base and added two turbos to create a 650bhp hot hatch.
The power is sent directly through to the rear wheels via a slick semi-automatic DSG gearbox to produce a tyre-shredding 195mph top speed.
But even with the Golf W12’s carbon-fibre roof, Jeremy Clarkson still couldn’t hustle the hatch around a corner of the famous Top Gear test track.
